Turning your frown upside down
How do you feel when you wake up in the morning? What types of emotions or thoughts run through your mind? Take a second to think about how you felt this morning when you wake up. Based on how you felt, how did your day end up going? Let me give you an example. Did you wake up late, maybe you didn't have time to shower, so already your day isn't going as you planned. So you have the thought that this is going to be bad day and that's just how it is. It is "one of those days." How did the rest of the day pan out? If you really felt that it was going to be a bad day, it most likely was. You probably only focused on the bad things that day. Now, let's flip this. Say you still woke up late, still didn't have time to shower. Yet, you didn't say to yourself, this is going to be a bad day, and "one of those days." Instead what if you said to yourself, well these things happen, I still have the whole rest of the day ahead of me with good things to come. How do you think this outlook had the day pan out? A positive outlook really does make all the difference in your day. Of course, it doesn't solve everything and isn't the miracle answer to all of life's problems. Yet viewing a situation trying to see what positives could come out of it can be more helpful than viewing only the negative from that situation. If you are really in a bad mood for that day, try the 2 hour good mood commitment. That is saying to yourself for the next 2 hours I am going to commit to being in a good mood. You will find that after those 2 hours it will be hard to go back to the negative mood you were in. Also try keeping things around you that make you happy or can cheer you up when you are feeling down. Such as a positive quote that inspires you, or a picture of someone that you love, or one of your pets. Something that will bring a smile to your face.
